Abstract

1327429 Purifying nitrite-containing solutions DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBERSCHEIDEANSTALT 6 Nov 1970 [27 Nov 1969] 52832/70 Heading C1C A process for the detoxification of a nitritecontaining aqueous solution comprises reacting the solution in the form of a fine dispersion with molecular oxygen or a free oxygen-containing gas at a pH below 8 in the absence of catalysts and without the application of excess pressure, to convert nitrite into nitrate. The reaction may be carried out in a column packed with active carbon, silica or ceramic fragments. The process may be carried out in a closed system so that the solution can be recycled through the packed column. The gas may move countercurrent to the solution.
